Wow! Seems like forever since my last post. After an extended road trip we finally got a game back home at PBP against the Indiana Pacers, who have been playing well.
We started the night off at the Season Ticket Holder n00b event to school us on how to transfer/exchange tickets as well as the additional benefits we receive. It came with dinner and 2 free tickets in Section 119 so Shane and I got to jump with the "Goon Squad" right before tipoff, good times!
The game stayed pretty close throughout the first half but by the end of the third quarter the Kings trailed 80-66. Luckily the fourth quarter followed a familiar (home game) pattern as of late where the defense gets cranked up and the free throws start dropping. In a decisive 12 minutes the Kings outscored Indiana 26-8! WOW!
Now we have to wait until 1/25 for the Nuggets... Good thing we get a lot of home games down the stretch.

The news during the afternoon that Paul Westphal was relieved of his duties did not really come as a surprise with the way the Kings have played recently and the drama that has unfolded during the start of this season. What remained to be seen was how the team would react to Keith Smart as his replacement and whether or not they would play up to their potential...
The crowd seemed kind of apprehensive at the start of the game, but the Kings came out energized and, although still mistake prone, trailed 30-25 at the end of the 1st Quarter. Tyreke Evans had a strong start with 10 points.
Unfortunately the 2nd Quarter resembled the way things have gone in the Kings losses. Turnovers, missed shots, giving up easy baskets all lead to a 58-27 deficit that had the crowd mumbling about how things hadn't changed...
The 2nd Half started with the teams trading baskets and mistakes for awhile but the Kings gradually ate into the lead and were able to shave 7 points of the lead to trail by 14 going into the 4th.
The 4th Quarter was the most fun at PBP since the Laker game to start the season! The Kings moved the ball well, dominated on the boards and got huge games from Tyreke, Marcus Thornton, and Big Cuz. Jason Thompson was also huge on the boards! With 3:18 to go Marcus hit 2 free throws to bring the Kings within 4. Could they actually pull this one out after all the adversity and recent drama?
With Tyreke's 2 Free throws at the :18.1 mark the Kings led 101-100! After getting the ball back and Tyreke drawing another foul, his free throws put the Kings up 103-100 with 2,6 seconds left! A failed 3 point attempt by the Bucks and the Kings hang on for a much need victory!
I'm liking the start to the Keith Smart Era...

Inside The Box 209
Power Balance Pavilion 1/1/2012:
Tonight's game against the Hornets looked like a great opportunity to bounce back with a much needed win. Unfortunately around 3:30 this afternoon Twitter was lighting up with the news that DeMarcus Cousins had told Coach Westphal he wanted to be traded and was told to stay home... stay tuned to see how this all plays out.
So with all the drama it was great to see the Kings come out with a little fire and play strong for most of the game. The bench and a rejuvenated defense paid huge dividends as the Kings steadily built a lead towards the end of the first half. Both Marcus Thornton and Tyreke had strong games and Tyreke was a force on defense as well. Not to go unnoticed was the much improved free throw shooting. 84% was much better than any of the 4 previous games and the result was a 96-80 victory that made everyone feel a little better before they hit the road for a quick road trip.
I felt so good I decided to get a custom blaylockboyz jersey after the game... Or maybe it's insurance against anyone demanding to be traded since I have 3 different Cousins jerseys...

Let's just say that last night's performance was too frustrating to even elaborate on...
Looking forward to better things in 2012 and then it starts out with drama between DeMarcus and Coach Westphal... Can things get any worse?
